Two survive car, trailer accident near General Motors

Two people this evening escaped unscathed after a truck hit a saloon car in which they were traveling, sending it flying for 20 meters before landing on its roof into a ditch close to General Motors along Mombasa Road.

The town bound Toyota Premio 2013 model was cruising on the outermost lane before it swerved, in a sharp diagonal, intercepting the transit petrol tanker that was heading the same direction, on the innermost lane.

“Then the truck hit the car sending it flying into this ditch,” offered an eyewitness, “before the trailer screeched to a halt.”

Consequently, traffic snarled up to as far as the junction to JKIA on one side and Vision Plaza on the other side of the busy road.

When an EMS ambulance arrived to the scene, the driver of the ill-fated car had disappeared. Martin Ogutu, 30, the other passenger, confirmed that the driver was OK and had just excused himself and paced towards Highway Cabanas.

Ogutu owned that the driver was over speeding and could have been distorted by a phone call he received from his wife.

“Were it not for the safety belts, I am sure we would be no more,” he said, after disembarking from the Kenya Red Cross ambulance.

EMS paramedics confirmed that he was in perfect condition.

He was engrossed in assembling documents, DVDs, and mobile phones strewn everywhere in the scene amongst the broken glass when the traffic police arrived.

This, according to the police, would have been a fatal accident were it not for the ditch that accommodated the car.

There is an upward trend on accidents cars along this part of Mombasa Road, according to eyewitnesses.

Two months today, an over speeding car veered off the road at the railway bridge before bursting into flames upon landing, killing its only passenger.
